From knowledge to preservation.
Two days of conference dedicated to an integrated protection of archival, library, and photographic heritage.
This was the title of the event held in Ortigia (Syracuse), in the evocative former Convent of Il Ritiro, on May 5 and 6.
Under the coordination of Claudia Giordano from the Superintendence, the conference provided an opportunity to take stock of scientific research, with a particular focus on environmental degradation damage to paper materials — such as parchments, documents, and books. Around thirty scholars from some of the most prestigious national and international institutions took part, exchanging views on existing literature and on the use of technology — including artificial intelligence — in support of knowledge and preservation. Among the speakers were representatives from the Vatican Apostolic Library, the Ricordi Historical Archive in Milan, and the Nello Carrara Institute of Applied Physics (IFAC-CNR) in Sesto Fiorentino, along with numerous universities, libraries, and research centers.
